Boston, MA – This Saturday, a select group of Ephs competed at the Tufts University National Qualifying Meet. The meet served as a last chance for the athletes to hit qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship next weekend. The day's competition featured members of a range of Division III teams, including Johns Hopkins University, MIT, and Bates College. Though few in number, the Ephs had a strong presence throughout the meet, achieving impressive marks and personal bests across the event groups. Â
Starting with the running events, in the 400m, junior Camryn Taylor came 1st with a time of 57.95 (with a conversion of 57.19 on a banked track). Senior captain Abby Scott placed 4th in the 800m, running 2:17.04. Sophomore Blakeley Buckingham and Lucy Gagnon both achieved impressive personal records in the mile. Buckingham won the event in 4:54:65, and Gagnon took 2nd in 4:56.16. In the 3000m, sophomore Ella Ball and junior Molly Fitzgibbons placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Ball ran a personal record of 9:46.29 and Fitzgibbons crossed the line in a personal record of 9:52.12.
Next, in the jumps, freshman Ellie Fitzgerald placed 3rd in the pole vault, successfully jumping over a mark of 3.51m. Sophomore Morgan Nasir and senior captain Kristen Chou both competed in the long jump. Nasir won the event with an outstanding jump of 5.75m, tying the Williams indoor track and field long jump record. Chou placed 4th, jumping 5.37m.
The Ephs were highly successful at this last-chance meet, managing to dominate the competition even as a small group. Next weekend, several Ephs will move on to compete in individual and relay events at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship in Birmingham, AL. The team is incredibly proud of their accomplishments this season thus far, and is excited to compete in the culminating meet of the 2022-2023 indoor track season.Â
