Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, MA— Ephs picked up their first win of the season against the Smith Pioneers 19-4. The diverse conglomerate of scorers was indicative of the depth the Ephs have.
The Ephs opened the scoring four minutes into the game after
Elsa Dean-Muncie's blistering pace got her around the net followed by a great finish. The Ephs only needed a few seconds to double their lead by way of
Claudia Russell.
Claudia Russell doubled her goal tally and gave the Ephs a 3-0 lead with 6 minutes left in the first quarter. The Pioneers got one back after Gia Arancio scored and was assisted by Jennie Arancio.
Shea van den Broek reestablished the Ephs' three goal advantage with just over a minute left in the first quarter.
Shea van den Broek had one more in her to end the first period after taking advantage of the player-up situation to give the Ephs a 5-1 lead going into the second period.
The Ephs once again opened the scoring in the second quarter again by way of
Elsa Dean-Muncie shifting the Pioneer defense to score. The Ephs added to their five-goal lead after
Lauren Morganlander impressively evaded a few of the Pioneer defenders sticks to score from the free position. The Pioneers responded with 10:27 left in the half by way Sadie Tschider, but
Christina Halloran had other plans and from a free position brought the score back to 8-2. The Pioneers k managed to get past the strong Ephs defense and scored two towards the end of the half.
Lauren Morganlander reestablished the five-goal advantage for the Ephs right before halftime after quickly weaving her way through the Pioneer defense and scoring despite an abundance of contact from the Pioneer defenders.
Claudia Russell opened the second half scoring to take a 10-4 lead after
Elsa Dean-Muncie found her for the goal. Russell added another one after she fired an absolute rocket into the back of the net. Russell after the goal instantly brought her teammates into the huddle seemingly to emphasize the importance of the Ephs staying locked in despite the seven-goal advantage.
Katherine McCullough added to the Ephs impressive lead with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Ephs tacked on a few more goals in the third quarter to take a 15-4 lead.
Isabel Arvelo scored the 16
th for the Ephs after a nice low shot found the back of the net.
The fourth quarter began with much of the same for the Ephs after
Anna Miller found
Elsa Dean-Muncie to take a 17-4 lead. The Ephs were not done yet and tacked on two more goals. The Ephs second-half was nothing short of commanding as they held on to 19-4 victory.
The Ephs return to action midweek against the Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday, March 8
th at 6:30PM.
