Williamstown, MA – The Williams College Ephs improved to 8-2 on the year and 3-1 in NESCAC with their fifth consecutive win, defeating Trinity 9-0. The Ephs were impressive in the doubles play, particularly at the 3 spot where the Ephs blanked the Bantam 8-0. The Ephs kept the ball rolling during the singles play with five Ephs winning in straight sets.
During the doubles, sophomore
Shawn Berdia and first year
Simon Volkema raced to a 8-0 victory. Senior
Chase Cohen and junior
Matt Kandel fell behind early 3-1 but won seven straight games thereafter. Senior
Karan Amin partnered with first year
Nicholas Chen at the 2 spot. The duo were pushed to a tiebreaker but were dominant, winning 7-1.
In the singles play, Kandel earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory to set up Volkema for the clinch. After Volkema clinched, Chen won 6-2, 6-0. Berdia was next to close out his match, winning 6-1, 7-5. Cohen dropped his opening set but won the final two sets 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore
Andrew Chong was last on court and saved his best tennis for the end. After winning the first set in a tiebreaker, Chong kept his composure to win the second set 7-5.
The Ephs will face Connecticut College at 10 AM tomorrow.
