Williamstown, MA - The Williams College Baseball Team went 0-3 in a historic rivalry series to opposing Amherst College. The Mammoths won the first game, 9-0 in a seven inning contest and then defeated the Ephs 13-7 in the second game of the day.
Taking the win for Amherst in the second game was Jacob Ribitzki, who pitched 6 innings and gave up 5 earned runs. Taking the loss for the Ephs was
Nick Skiera, who pitched 6 innings and allowed 7 earned runs.
The Amherst scoring began in the third inning, after Christian Limon hit a big home run sending himself and Tyler McCord home. Jack Boyle scored the third run of the game after a Jack Sampedro single. A double from Ryan McIntyre sent Sampedro home safely. McIntyre scored the last run of the inning for the Mammoths, giving them a comfortable 5-0 lead.
The Ephs got on the scoreboard for the first time of the day in the fourth inning.
Henry Juan scored the first run, followed by a score from
Mike Giove. The Ephs ended the fourth down 5-2. Luke Padian hit a timely double for Amherst to right field, sending McDermott home. The Ephs attack continued courtesy of a double from
Mike Giove that sent
Cole Whitehouse and
Jakob Cohn home. The ballgame was 6-4 Amherst, at the conclusion of the fifth.
Amherst's McDermott scored the Mammoths single run of the seventh, giving them a 7-4 lead.
Jakob Cohn responded with a vital home run, shifting the energy of the ballgame.
Henry Juan would follow up with a score, unearned after a single from Giove. The score at the end of the seventh was 7-6, making the Williams comeback extremely promising.
Unfortunately, it was all Amherst from this point out. The Mammoths proceeded to go on a 6-0 run to close out the series in Williamstown. Boyle hit a crucial double to left field, that resulted in scores from McCord and Dove. Amherst's last 4 runs came in the ninth, sealing the victory for the Mammoths.
Williams looks to bounce back Wednesday, when they face Union College at home. The Ephs record now sits at 9-13.
