Williamstown, MA - The Williams College Baseball Team went scoreless at home, leading to a 9-0 loss to Amherst on Saturday.
Taking the win for Amherst was junior,
Nicholas Giattino who stole the show for the Mammoths. Giattino pitched the entirety of the seven inning game finishing with 9 strikeouts and left the Ephs scoreless. Taking the loss for the Ephs was
Will Jeffries, who was on the mound for 3 innings and allowed 4 earned hits.
Sean Hogan made a brief appearance on the mound, giving up 4 earned.
The Amherst attack began in the top of the third after Jack Sampedro hit a double to center field, that sent Christian Fagnant home. Jack McDermott and Ryan Mcintyre were a 1-2 punch, hitting triples that resulted in scores from Sampedro and McDermitt. Mcintyre scored the fourth run for the Mammoths.
Amherst doubled the score in the fourth inning, giving them a sturdy 8-0 lead. Of the 4 scores, 3 were the result of walks and the fourth was due to a balk. Sloppy showing from the Ephs. Fagnant scored the ninth run of the game in the fifth, which would be the last of the game.
The Ephs have a chance at revival, as they face Amherst at 4:00 for the latter half of the double-header.
