Ephs Sweep Doubleheader from Colby College on Senior Day at Cole Field

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS – Today, the Williams College Softball team (11-11/5-3 NESCAC) faced Colby College (16-10/5-5 NESCAC) in a doubleheader on Cole Field. The Ephs won the first game 8-6, coming back from a 6-run deficit in the second inning with a strong offensive showing in the later innings. The second game was a more decisive, an 11-4 victory for the Ephs.

In the first game, Colby quickly gained traction, scoring 3 runs in both the first and second innings. The Ephs got on the board with a home run from Sydney Fleming in the bottom of the second, but didn't score again until the fifth.

Alyana Granados scored when Kelly McGuigan grounded out to third base. Fleming then doubled to center field, allowing both Kayla Chang and Savannah Slater to score. In the seventh inning, Bailey Burger-Moore doubled, advancing to third on an error and allowing Sadie Leonard to score after having walked. Burger-Moore then scored herself on a wild pitch, leaving the score 6-6. The Ephs' last two runs came in the ninth when Chang advanced to first after being hit by a pitch and Fleming hit her second home run of the game, leaving the Ephs ahead by 2.

The Ephs performed extremely well offensively throughout the second game, starting in the first inning when Chang, first up to bat, singled to the pitcher on a bunt. McGuigan singled to left field next, and Fleming reached first on a fielder's choice. In quick succession, Burger-Moore singled to left field driving in Chang, Ronni Ramos singled up the middle, and Tayler Wise singled to shortstop (helping Fleming score). The last run of the inning was earned when Adhya Tandon grounded out to shortstop and Burger-Moore reached home, and the Ephs led 3-1.

The Ephs added three more runs to their tally in the second inning. Vicky Balderas and McGuigan both singled up the middle. Balderas scored when Fleming grounded out to shortstop, and Burger-Moore's double to left field brought home McGuigan. Burger-Moore then stole third, and scored on Ramos' single to left field.

In the third inning the Ephs scored four more times, bringing their total to 11. Granados and Balderas singled up the middle, and Chang singled on a bunt. McGuigan then singled, advancing to second on an error and allowing both Granados and Balderas to score. Fleming then flied out to right field, giving Chang the chance to score.

McGuigan scored on a double to left field by Burger-Moore, who then scored the Ephs' last run of the day when Glickman singled to left field. Though the Ephs gave up three runs in the top of the fourth inning, the Mules weren't able to score again and the game ended with an 11-4 Eph win.

'The most important message is that we won both games," said Eph head coach Kris Herman. "Every weekend game is really important at this point. We had a ton of great individual performances and obviously the first game was really exciting and a testament to our resilience."

Next up for the Ephs is a home doubleheader vs. Amherst on Frday on Cole Field with the first game starting at 3 PM.
