Williams, following a victory over Bard College yesterday, picked up where they left off. Mike Giove scored the only run in the first inning after making his way to third when David Driscoll would send him home. Martin took control of the game early, striking out all 3 hitters in the second inning, leaving a goose egg on the scoreboard for RPI. Daniel Lynch scored the second run of the inning on a passed ball. Jon Singleton hit a timely single driving in Luca Lopetrone. Williams entered the third up 3-0.Â
The Williams defense continued to lock down the Engineers, allowing just a single hit in the third. Driscoll got on base by the error by RPI's second baseman. Cole Whitehouse hit a single, advancing Driscoll to third. Driscoll scored unearned after an error by RPI's pitcher. The Ephs found themselves with the bases loaded after Lynch was hit by a pitch. Lopetrone, continuing a phenomenal first year, hit a single to left field that brought Whitehouse home. This gave Williams a 5-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, the Engineers were able to put some runs on the board, scoring twice. Parker Gelfuso scored their first run of the game after Jack Moncur hit a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Stephen Koval added to the score with a run of his own after Martin Marintche hit a single up the middle field.
