Williams Lose Heartbreaker to Castleton, 6-5

Williamstown, MA - The Williams College Baseball team took a gritty loss at home by opponent Castleton University on Wednesday.

The game was a battle from the beginning, leaving the scoreboard empty until the third inning. Castleton opened the scoring after Evan Keegan hit a double to left center, sending Tyler McLain home. Keegan would add to the score unearned, putting Castleton up 2-0. 

Castleton would score an additional 3 runs in the top of the fourth, putting Williams down 5 runs. Williams senior Matthew Brown responded by hitting a timely double to right field, sending Cole Whitehouse and James O'Connor home. Castleton headed into the fifth up, 5-2.

Castleton's Evan Keegan would score his third run of the game in the top of the sixth, following a single from Kannon Dush. Williams would close the gap to 2 following scores from Cole Whitehouse and James O'Connor.

Williams left Castleton scoreless in the seventh after a potential 2-run play was overturned, sending Williams to the bottom of the inning down 6-4. Mike Giove would score the final run of the game following a single from Cole Whitehouse. 

Castletion utilized 7 different pitchers, Stephen Coffrey would take the win, finishing with 3 strikeouts and 2 earned runs. Taking the loss was junior JP Wong who fought hard through 3 innings, finishing with 7 strikeouts with 4 earned runs. John Sandifer pitched the next 3, finishing with 5 strikeouts and only allowing 1 earned run. The dual sport first year, Teddy Massingham would pitch 2 innings finishing with 3 strikeouts and no earned runs. 

The Ephs host NESCAC foe Hamilton this Friday at 4 pm in a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
