Springfield, MA – The Williams Women's Track and Field team competed at the Division III New England Championship at Springfield College this Friday, May 5th, and Saturday, May 6th, 2023. Select Ephs raced, jumped and threw against some of the best athletes from schools like Amherst College, Tufts University and Middlebury College. For many, this marked the final meet of the outdoor season. 
Senior captains Kristen Chou, Caroline Douglas, Hannah Brown and Kiara Tan all competed on Friday. Chou placed 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.35m, and Douglas came in 17th in the 100m hurdles, running 16.04. Brown competed in the first day of the heptathlon, which she completed on Saturday, placing 14th with a score of 3149. Tan raced in the preliminaries of the 100m dash where she achieved a season's best time of 12.01, putting her in 2nd place. In the finals on Saturday, she ran 12.05, maintaining her 2nd place finish. 
Turning to Saturday, the Ephs had great success in the field events. Freshman Ellie Fitzgerald placed 3rd in the pole vault by achieving an outstanding personal best of 3.75m. Sophomores Jae Yu and Poppy Miller placed 4th and 8th, respectively in the same event. Yu jumped over a mark of 3.65m, and Miller jumped over 3.35m. In the shot put, freshman Emma Miller threw a college personal record of 12.20m, earning her a 9th place finish. 
The Ephs continued to perform well in the distance events. In the 1500m, senior captain Abby Scott ran a fantastic race, crossing the line in 4:33.33, which put her in 5th place. Junior Lucy Gagnon came in 7th with a time of 4:36.80, and was closely followed by senior Maddy Lawler who came in 8th with 4:39.33. Sophomore Nora Johnson ran 4:50.30, placing 16th, and senior Sammie Seamon ran 4:51.08, placing 17th. In the 1500m, freshman Kate Swann came 13th, running a personal record of 18:31.98.
Finally, many great marks were attained in the sprints events. The 4x100m relay team of Tan, sophomore Rachel Arthur, junior Camryn Taylor and freshman Ella Sukup ran a smooth race with great hand-offs. They placed 4th with a time of 48.15. Senior Scarlet Rusch competed in the 400m, where she finished in 6th with a time of 58.32. In the 800m, sophomores Grace Kaercher and Elsa Martin placed 21st and 25th, respectively. Kaercher ran 2:22.15 and Martin ran 2:24.93. In the 400m hurdles, freshman Greta Vaughn placed 20th, running 1:10.99. Sophomore Malia Klein competed in the 200m where she came 19th with 26.39. 
Overall, the Ephs took advantage of the beautiful weather and accomplished many high-level performances at this championship meet. Some of them will compete in the All-New-Englands Championship meet on May 12th and 13th and in the Williams Final Qualifier meet on May 17th to try to secure qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships, which will take place later in May.
