MIDDLEBURY, VT - Today the Ephs traveled to Vermont to play Middlebury College, and won 8-1. Although there were some close games and matches up and down the ladder, Williams remained strong to take the victory. Co-Captain
Will Evans said, "We were pushed by a talented Middlebury team and we played well in later games to come out on top when we needed to."
Starting off the Ephs for the first round of matches was
Charles Merrill at the nine seed. He started strong, winning the first game, but a few errors from him and a few good shots from his opponent cost him the second game. He was able to contain his opponent better in the third, which he won, but lost the fourth as he opened up the court too much. However, he managed to remain strong and win his match 3-2. Asher Leary at the five seed stayed strong in several close games to win his match. He won the first game 11-9, but then dropped the second and the third after a lapse in focus. However, he rallied and won the fourth and fifth games 13-11 and 11-8 respectively. First year
Nick Agger at the two seed exhibited solid squash and won 3-0.
Starting off the Ephs for the second round of matches was
John Nicholson at the 8 seed, who lost the first game, but managed to regroup and win the second 14-12. However, he could not put the ball away and ended up losing 3-1.
Alex Akbari at the six seed utilized his length hitting to win the first two games, but a slow start cost him the third. However, he regrouped and won his match 3-1. Co-Captain
Andrew Minnis started strong and won the first two games of his match, but a momentary lapse in focus cost him the second game. However, he got back on track and won 3-1 at the three seed.Â
Starting off the last round of matches was
Hudson Lin at the 7 seed, who utilized his attacking shots to win 3-0.
Jack Lee at the four seed swiftly followed suit, remaining strong in the second game which he won 16-14 and he won in three games as well. Co-Captain
Will Evans closed out the day of matches with a 3-0 win at the 1 seed, also showing his determination in the second game, which he won 13-11.
It was another solid win for Williams, extending their winning streak to seven in a row with all of the wins over teams ranked 26th nationally or better. They look ahead to their match against #10 Dartmouth on Wednesday in Hanover, NH..Â
