Game Recap
The Mules opened up the scoring early into the game when Megan Martodam put one past Erin Pye less than two minutes into the game, and they controlled the game's momentum from there on out (1:47).
After Martodam's initial goal, the Mules quickly followed up with another goal 56 seconds later, scored by Meg Rittenhouse (2:43). Midway through the first period, the Ephs received their first power play opportunity, however, the Mules' penalty kill unit succeeded, and the game remained at 2-0. This momentum carried the Mules, and they scored their 3rd goal of the game moments later (13:48). In the final minutes of the period the Ephs were able to get a number of shots off, but sophomore goaltender Grace Caligiuri was staunch in net, and the period ended 3-0.
The Ephs started the second period on the power play, but, once again, the Mules succeeded in killing off the power play. However, Senior forward Bella DeLuca soon after found the back of the net, scoring the first goal for the Ephs (4:30). The Ephs seemed to ramp up the intensity, but a penalty proved costly when it put the Mules on the power play, which they converted (12:18). The Ephs had two more power play opportunities this period, both of which were unfortunately unsuccessful.
The third period opened up with an early power play opportunity for the Ephs, but they were unable to score during the two minute interval. The Ephs' last goal of the night was a power play goal that was delivered late in the game by Quinn Dawson, bringing the score to 4-2 (19:15).
After the game, Ephs head coach Megan Gillis commented, "We just weren't ready to start the game so we are down 3-0 after the first and it's really hard to come back from that. We played much better in the second and third."
Tomorrow, the Ephs will once again face the Mules in Waterville, with puck drop scheduled for 3PM.
