Medford, MA - Today the Ephs traveled to Boston to face off against a talented Tufts team. Williams faced talented opponents down the line, but exhibited their stamina and consistent play in many key matches to win 6-3. Co-captain
Andrew Minnis said he was "really proud of the way the team played today, a lot of the players stepped up when the team needed them, but we've got to stay focused and keep looking forward to the next match."
Starting off the first round of matches for the Ephs was
Hudson Lin at the 8 seed, who was neck and neck with his opponent, but could not convert the key rallies toward the end of the games and lost 3-0.
Jack Lee, at the four seed, got off to a slow start, losing the first and going down 7-1 in the second. However, he figured out his opponent's game plan and turned around the match, coming back to take the second game 12-10, and the match 3-1. Last up in the first round was Co-captain
Will Evans at the 1 seed, who stayed headstrong in the first game, winning it 12–10. He then used his momentum to win the second, but a lapse in focus cost him the third. However, he regrouped and won 3-1.
Starting off the second round of matches for the Ephs was
Pierce Henderson at the 7 seed. He faced a talented opponent and lost 3-0.
Alex Akbari, at the 6 seed, had a crucial win for Williams, winning an hour and a half long match, After winning the first two games 11-9, 11-9, he unfortunately did not get off to a good start in the third and fourth game, and lost both of them. However, despite being down 9-7 in the fifth, Alex remained mentally strong and utilized his stamina to win 12-10 in the fifth. Co-captain
Andrew Minnis at the 3 seed won his first game convincingly, but a few errors in the second game caused him to lose it. However, he regrouped and won 3-1.
And starting off the third and round of matches for the Ephs was
John Nicholson at the 9 seed, who started strong and won the first game. He managed to stick to his game plan in the second game, which he narrowly won 12-10. However, a few errors in the third game caused him to lose it, but he regrouped and used all four corners of the court to win 3-1. Asher Leary at the 5 seed got off to a slow start, losing the first game. However, he got back in control of the middle of the court, and utilized his attacking shots to win 3-1.
Nick Agger at the 2 seed had a tough five-game match, going down 2-0 but then stuck to his game plan to tie the score at 2-2. However, his opponent placed some skillful shots and Nick ultimately lost 3-2.
It was a good win for Williams against a strong opponent. They look ahead to two matches tomorrow at home, against MIT and Wesleyan.
