WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- For the last home match of the season, the Williams Ephs were scheduled to play the Wesleyan Cardinals ranked #25. The Ephs were fired up to play them after a tough loss against Tufts the day before. The resulting score was a 9-0 sweep in Williams favor.
On first today was
Deena Iqbal (#8),
Sophia Koehler (#1), and
Rhea Pandit (#4). Pandit and Koehler both won their matches in three straight games, hitting clean drives and precise drops consistently throughout their matches. Iqbal won in four games, hitting dying lengths and crosscourt kills.
The second round was by played by
Nora Brant (#7),
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis (#6), and
Rachel Miller (#3). Brant, Jefferson-Sambanis, and Miller all won their matches in three consecutive games, not dropping one game for their Cardinal opponents. Co-Captain Brant was on fire today and with consistent length and tight drop shots, she was able to squash her opponent.
Last on court today was
Amanda Solecki (#9),
Melanie Wang (#2), and
Anika Kakarla (#5). Solecki and Wang were able to sweep their opponents in three games playing smart and making their opponents fight for every point. Kakarla won in four games, only dropping one to her Cardinal opponent, and was able to bounce back with strong dying drives and great movement.
After the match, head coach
Hesham Aly commented, "After yesterday's loss, a clean sweep was great to see from the team today, everyone fought hard and deserved to win."
Next week on Friday, Williams is set to play the school's top rival Amherst ranked #17 in women's squash.
