WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- For the second match of the weekend, the Williams Ephs were set to play the Georgetown Hoyas ranked #15, a ranking right below the Eph team. This match was named the College Squash Association's match of the week, and the Ephs prevailed with a 6-3 win after some strong matches.

The first round of matches were played by
Rachel Miller (#3),
Anika Kakarla (#6), and
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis (#9). Miller and Jefferson-Sambanis dominated their opponents, swiftly beating them in three straight games. Â Freshmen Kakarla battled hard in a tough five games, and won the match. With some close games, she stayed consistent and strong throughout the match, leading to another purple point on the board.Â

Next up were
Deena Iqbal (#8),
Sophia Koehler (#2), and
Theresa Kay (#4). Sophomore Iqbal and Co-captain Kay showed dominance against their Georgetown opponents and finished their matches strong. Iqbal stumbled slightly in the second game with a tough opponent, but was able to become more focused and win the next two. Koehler fell into a five-game battle with her opponent. She began her match very strong by winning 11-3, but lost focus in the next couple games, leading to a win for the Hoyas.Â
The last round was played by
Nora Brant (#7), Â
Melanie Wang (#1), and
Rhea Pandit (#5). Inspired by the wins before her, Brant fought hard in the first game, not letting her opponent take control. She wavered slightly in the second game, but was able to finish off the match in four strong games. Freshmen Wang and Pandit battled hard and played great squash but both fell in three and four games respectively. Â
After the match, head coach
Hesham Aly commented "The women's team played well today and were able to get focused in their individual matches. It was great to see all the energy inside and outside the courts today and I know we will continue it throughout the season."

The Ephs will return to the Simon Squash Center to challenge Dickinson ranked #21 in their final match of the weekend tomorrow at 12pm.
