Amherst, MA - - The Williams College Ephs (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NESCAC) dropped their second game of the season to the Amherst College Mammoths (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC) this afternoon 6-2.

By The Numbers

  • Both teams found success on the power play, with the Ephs going 1/2 and the Mammoths going 1/1.
  • The Mammoths out shot the Ephs with 34 shots, compared to the Ephs' 23.
  • Defensively, the Mammoths recorded 20 blocked shots, doubling the Ephs' 10.

Game Recap

  • The Mammoths continued today's action where they left off yesterday, recording the first goal of the contest courtesy of first-year Ayla Abban (4:01).
  • The Ephs' first power play opportunity of the game came midway through the first period, but the Mammoths' penalty kill held them to only one shot and no goals during the two minute interval (8:44).
  • Nearing the end of the first period, junior forward Jaelyn Keiver got a good opportunity on net, but her shot went wide and the Ephs finished the period down 1-0 (19:44).
  • The second period began as back-and-forth between both sides, but momentum turned in the Mammoths' favor when they went on their first power play of the game (5:45). About a minute into the power play, the Mammoths took a 2-0 lead off of a Bea Flynn goal (6:40).
  • Despite being down 2-0, the Ephs continued to fight hard, and narrowed the Mammoths' lead off of a Charlotte Fetherson power play goal (12:38).
  • The Mammoths opened the third period's scoring early, netting a goal at 1:31.
  • Down 3-1, the Ephs responded quickly: senior captain Quinn Dawson found sophomore Katherine Kang, who slipped the puck past the Mammoths' goaltender to bring the score to 3-2 (4:16).
  • After Kang's goal, the Mammoths began to play with greater vigor, which led to a flurry of shots on Erin Pye that eventually gave way to a goal by Tammy Zhu to increase the Mammoths' lead to 4-2 (10:03).
  • The Ephs looked sharp about three-quarters into the final period, inhabiting their offensive zone and firing off a number of shots (14:00).
  • With about four minutes remaining in the game and trailing by two goals, Eph head coach Megan Gillis decided to call a timeout and pull Pye. The Mammoths capitalized on the empty net, taking a 5-2 lead after a timeout of their own (17:25).
  • Twenty seconds later, the Mammoths scored the final goal of the game, ending the game for the Ephs with a 6-2 defeat.

After the game, Epoh head coach Megan Gillis remarked, "Similar to yesterday we were in a solid position going into the third against a very talented team. We had a couple tough bounces go our way and a few against us. It was nice to see Charlotte and Katherine each score their first college goals."

Next up for the Ephs, they'll face off against the MCLA Trail Blazers in their home opener in Lansing Chapman Rink, at 7PM on Tuesday, November 19th.
