Medford, Massachusetts – Chasing 6 points, the Williams College Ephs walked into The Malden Valley Forum with determination to walk away with 2 wins on the weekend. The game showcased Williams' unending effort as they secured key hard-fought goals across all three periods.
The Ephs struck early in the opening period, taking advantage of a bobbled puck by Tufts who were on the Power Play.
Owen Stadheim continued his dominance on the Penalty Kill last year with his first goal the season coming short-handed. The Captain pushes his players both on and off the ice and demonstrated to everyone that this game was going to be won by the Ephs. Another Williams senior who is always leading the way,
Jack Sabre, would be perfectly positioned in front of the net to tip a shot from
William Yee to put the Ephs up 2-0 going into the second.
Tufts ramped up their energy in the second frame, but Williams responded with precision. Midway through the period,
David Vieten capitalized on smooth puck movement from Grant Fuschen and Trevor O'Brein. The momentum didn't stop there as Connor Fitzpatrick found his first of the season to bring Williams a 4-0 lead. The Jumbo's would have a late period push to bring themselves within 2, but this game was still fully in the hands of the Ephs.
There wouldn't be any goals scored in the 3
rd period, but that is not an accurate representation of the ways the Ephs played. Huge saves by
Cal Sandquist, amazing effort from the Heithoff brothers,
Nate Heithoff and
Rowan Heithoff, and solid coaching pushed the Ephs to their second win of the weekend. The final score would be 4-2.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas had this to say after the game, "
Cal Sandquist was sensational in goal…it was nice to see us generate 9 goals spread out through all four forward lines a week later." And regarding next weekend, "We will be excited and motivated to get back on the ice Monday and keep building on what we've learned from this past weekend."
The Ephs will be heading out of conference looking for big wins over Babson and Geneseo.
