Williamstown, MA – The Williams College Ephs (3-2-0) hosted the Babson College Beavers (4-3-1) at Lansing Chapman Rink today, looking to maintain the momentum they developed in the week prior. The Thanksgiving break appeared to have nothing on the Ephs as they started out strong with exceptional puck movement and solid defense, captained by
Cal Sandquist keeping everything out that was sent his way. Despite a few penalties taken by the Ephs, the steadfast penalty kill remained. The period would end with the momentum firmly in the hands of Williams despite the score remaining even at 0-0.
The second period saw both teams starting to settle down as neither seemed to have the advantage over the other as most of the period remained in the neutral zone as well as scoreless.
The third period was a different story, however. After two periods of non-stop work, sacrifice, and dedication, the Ephs finally found the back of the net.
Leo Schneeberg would record his first collegiate point with a beautiful hardworking shift that had him finding
Jack Sabre in the slot with the senior recording his 3
rd goal in 3 consecutive games.
Jack Sabre has been a staple of the Ephs offense this year leading the way on and off the score sheet. The Beavers would not go down so easily, as they responded within the next two shifts with a goal of their own, putting the game back to even and pushing this one into overtime.
There is no amount of hard work that the Ephs weren't willing the put in for these short 5 minutes.
David Vieten continued to display his leadership as he continued to sacrifice his body to keep the puck from even reaching the crease and that effort would not go unrewarded. With time coming to a close,
Jack Sabre would find his second point of the night with a beautiful assist to Connor Fitzpatrick that sent Chapman Rink into a frenzy as the Ephs clinched the game.
Grant Fuchsen was also credited with an assist on the goal.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas had this to say after the game in regards to tonight and leading into tomorrow's contest at SUNY Geneseo. "Tonight we played a very good team game against a well-coached and determined Babson group. Cal made some nice saves early to help us settle in, and the players did a good job staying with our game. The team win will help us focus as we prepare for Geneseo."
