Geneseo, NY – After a three-game win streak, the Williams College Ephs (2-3-0) finally met their match against the still undefeated Geneseo College Knights (9-0-0). Despite a determined effort, there was only so much the Ephs had left to put up against the relentless Knights dropping 2 goals in the first, 1 goal in the second, and 1 goal in the third.
An immediate sense of urgency came across the Eph's bench as the game began. The persistent offense of the Knights pushed the Ephs to focus on all the things that they've spent the year working on. Good communication, dedication to systems, and attention to details are all the thinks Coach Kangas wants his players to focus on. Despite taking a couple penalties, the Ephs stellar penalty kill shown through once again shutting the Knights down. That being said the Ephs would fall behind 2-0 in the first frame.
The second period the Ephs came out with renewed life. The offense started to generate chances; they were hard on the fore check and caused Geneseo to take a couple penalties. Despite that and a great effort from
Jack Sabre,
Owen Stadheim, and
David Vieten, the Ephs would find themselves trailing by an additional goal going into the third period.
Williams never gave up in this game, but they seemed to be fighting against the puck today as nothing seemed to bounce their way. The Geneseo Knights finally capitalized on their 5
th power play of the evening, which would be the last goal of this game, leaving the Ephs down 4-0.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas had this to say after today's loss, "I thought Geneseo's pressure kept us on our heels for chunks of the game. Cal Sanquist was very solid in goal again, but the opportunities we had were not frequent enough and we were not able to sustain our momentum." In response to next week being back in conference, "With one week left and two big NESCAC away games next weekend to conclude our first semester of the season, I expect we will have a completely focused and determined week of practice."
