Ephs Continue Winning Ways, Defeat Spartans 4-0

Williamstown, MA -- The Williams College Ephs (3-2-0, 0-2-0 NESCAC) bested the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans (3-4-1, 2-3-1 NEHC) in a 4-0 shutout victory this Tuesday evening.

By the Numbers

  • The Ephs recorded 67 shots on goal, while the Spartans recorded 20.
  • The Ephs continued their power play success from their previous game, going 2/4, while the Spartans were 0/1.
  • Senior goaltender Amanda Lackmann earned her second shutout of the season with 20 saves.

Game Recap

  • The Ephs opened the scoring about halfway into the first period, with junior captain Leah Rubinshteyn finding the back of the net off an assist by Charlotte Fetherson (9:10).
  • The Ephs held the puck in their offensive zone as the first period began to wind down, but their momentum and steady array of shots was impeded by a body checking penalty against the Spartans. Despite the man-up advantage, the Ephs were unable to capitalize and ended the period with their 1-0 advantage (17:52).
  • The Spartans opened the second period with noticeable intensity, firing off a number of shots on net that Lackmann turned away. The Ephs responded quickly, coming down the ice after a face-off win by Chloe Noxon. Noxon was rewarded for her hard work on the ice with her first goal of the season, slipping one past the Spartans' goaltender after some great puck movement by the Ephs (2:32).
  • Just three minutes later, the Ephs found themselves on their second power play chance of the evening (5:30). The Ephs capitalized quickly, scoring 19 seconds into the power play, and it was once again Rubinshteyn finding the back of the net for the home side (5:49).
  • The third period was marked by a lone goal for the Ephs. Finding themselves on an opportunistic 5-on-3 chance, the Ephs steadily maintained position in their offensive zone, and soon after the Spartans' Emery Bonner completed her penalty, sophomore defenseman Celine Mayer scored the final goal of the game for the Ephs, putting an exclamation mark on a 4-0 victory.

Following the game, Eph head coach Meghan Gillis, stated, "I thought the team played well together tonight in terms of both passing and being cohesive. There was some definite synergy there and we played solid each period."

The next game for the Ephs will be against Norwich University in Northfield, VT on December 7th, with puck drop scheduled for 3PM.
