Game Recap
- While the first period opened with the Cadets' offense maintaining possession of the puck and taking quality shots, junior goaltender Erin Pye looked sharp in net, making a number of impressive saves.
- Off of a face off victory, Leah Rubinshetyn looked to continue her scoring streak, but had her shot turned away by the Cadets' Leocadia Clark. However, first-year forward Ellie French rebounded the puck and scored to put the Ephs up 1-0 (7:14).
- Five minutes later, fans watching the game may have gotten a sense of déjà vu. Once again an Ephs face off victory led to a Rubinshteyn shot on goal that was denied by Clark. This time it was Charlotte Fetherston scoring off the rebound, growing the Ephs lead to 2-0 (12:13).
- The Ephs' first power play opportunity of the game was granted due to a hooking penalty, but the Cadets' penalty kill unit proved strong, holding the Ephs to no shots during the power play (13:42).
- The Cadets opened the second period on the power play, but stellar goaltending from Pye prevented the home side from shrinking the Ephs' lead (2:00).
- The Cadets received their second power play chance due to a tripping penalty against the Ephs, but it was once again Pye starring, as well as sophomore defenseman Katherine Kang with a clutch blocked shot, to hold the Ephs' lead (11:17).
- The third period was a back-and-forth battle, and as it approached a close the Cadets pulled their goaltender in a last ditch effort. Despite recording six consecutive shots in the final two minutes, the Ephs held strong and secured the 2-0 victory.
After the win, Eph head coach Meghan Gillis expressed her happiness with the team victory: "I think Erin was amazing between the pipes to post the shutout building off the string of 3 shut outs by Lackmann previously. The line of Rubinshteyn, French and Fetherston provided a huge spark on offense to secure the win."
Next up for the Ephs will be a game at SUNY Morrisville tomorrow in Morrisville, NY. at 3PM.
