AMHERST, MA -- For the NESCAC semifinals, the Williams Ephs were matched up against the Trinity Bantams, ranked #1 in the nation. The Ephs put up a good fight, but were bested in the end with a 9-0 result in Trinity's favor.
First on court were
Nora Brant (#9),
Sophia Koehler (#1), and
Anika Kakarla (#6). Kakarla played consistent with deep volleys to the back corners and smart shot selections.
The second round of matches were played by
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis (#7),
Rachel Miller (#3), and
Rhea Pandit (#5). Jefferson-Sambanis fell in three games, but used quick movement and tight shots against the side wall.
Last on court was
Deena Iqbal (#8), and
Theresa Kay (#4),
Melanie Wang (#2). Co-captain Kay played well against a top rated opponent, and was close to besting her opponent in two of her games.
After the match, head coach
Hesham Aly commented, "We played well today, and are looking forward to taking on some of the teams we played during the regular season at nationals next weekend."
The Williams Ephs are gearing up for their last week of training for the season, they are headed to Philadelphia next week for their division's national championship tournament.
