Ephs Fall Short in Doubleheader at Redlands

Scores:
Redlands University 5, Williams 0
Redlands University 6, Williams 5

Location: Redlands, CA
Records: Williams 4-4; Redlands 16-4

The Short Story:  The Ephs defense did not live up to the challenge in either game of the double header.  The Ephs had thirteen hits in game two and yet were undone by fielding errors, wasting a strong pitching performance by Elyse Chan '25.   Down 0-2 from early in the game the Ephs battled to score four runs in the 4th inning but were unable to hold the lead.  In game one four Williams errors were the story.  First-year Natalie Carter '27 pitched well, giving up only one earned run in the opener.

Coach's Take: "Redlands is a good team and their speed really made a difference today. However, we really helped them out with some poor plays and decision making.  That was, I hope, the low point for our defensive play on the year.  I'm excited by our bounce back on offense in game two and the clutch hitting up and down the lineup.  Our pitching has been really good overall and I'm excited to see us put it all together."- Head Coach Kris Herman

Game 1
How it Happened
  • Williams had two runners on with no out in the top of the first and were not able to capitalize. Redlands then got on the board with three runs to set the tone.
  • Both teams had just four hits in the game. For the Ephs, captain Tayler Wise '24 had two of those hits.
  • Natalie Carter '27 gave up just one earned run.
Game 2
How it Happened
  • Redlands again scored in the first inning.
  • Williams remained scoreless until the 5th inning where they erupted for four runs on RBI singles by Ronni Ramos '24, Vicky Trujillo Balderas '25 and Sidney Miller '26.
  • Miller was 3-4 on the day, while Ramos, Trujillo Balderas and Kayla Chang '25 all had two hits.
  • Elyse Chan '25 and Sadie Leonard '26 combined to complete the game.  Both pitched well but could not overcome some bad bounces and a couple of Eph miscues.

Up Next: Williams has a day off on Friday and returns to the field in Claremont, CA on Saturday with a noon doubleheader vs Claremont Mudd Scripps.
