Ephs Win Game One at Pomona-Pitzer

Scores:
Williams 7, Pomona-Pitzer 4

Location: Claremont, CA
Records: Williams 5-4; Pomona 9-12

The Short Story:  The long ball was the leader for the Ephs today, with six of the seven runs coming from home runs.  Sadie Leonard pitched 7 shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking out thirteen.  Justine Dunaway '27 hit her first collegiate home run in the sixth inning to help ensure the win.

Game two was canceled after numerous lightning delays. Williams was leading 1-0 through three innings with pitcher Elyse Chan '25 dominating to that point, having faced the minimum of nine batters.  Kaia Glickman '25 had the RBI double early in that contest.

Coach's Take: "The long ball is really exciting and to set the tone in the first inning like we did is so important for confidence and momentum.  We know we can play better and look forward to working in that direction, but 13 strikeouts is a good way to help us get there.  It was exciting to see every member of our team involved throughout the game, too. We're excited for some better weather and strong softball tomorrow." - Head Coach Kris Herman

Game 1
How it Happened

  • Sadie Leonard '26 gave up the only hit they allowed all day in the first inning then settled in with 13 K's.
  • Justine Dunaway '27, McGuigan and Katie Blanch '27 all had two hits in the game.
