Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Ephs Down Trinity 17-11 in Hartford

Hartford, CT -- Coming off a tough road loss at #5 R.P.I. on Wednesday, the Ephs (4-3, 3-1) came into today's game against the Trinity College Bantams (3-5, 0-4) on Jessee/Miller Field with a huge opportunity to get the momentum moving in the right direction. They did not pass up the chance. Williams took the lead early and held it for the entire game. Their biggest lead would come in the 2nd quarter, reaching a differential of eight.

The road legs wouldn't have any hold on the Ephs as the came into Hartford looking for a big win. The Ephs responded to the first goal of the game by the Bantams with a fantastic score by Ryan Nagle. Less than a minute later a pass from Otto Nicholson to Aiden Housenbold put the Ephs up 2-1. The Ephs would continue scoring in the 1st quarter with goals from Seamus Regan, Ryan Johnson, and Will Doran. There was no doubt that Williams came to play as they fashioned a first quarter lead of 5-3.

The constant pressure from the Eph defense began to wear on the Bantams, as Trinity was forced to take penalties to keep up with Williams. Fifteen seconds into the 2nd quarter Nick Bates found the back of the net with a great look from Pearse Glavin. Glavin scored the next goal, followed up swiftly by Will Doran who added two goals, completing his hat-trick. Out of the six goals the Ephs scored in the 2nd quarter, four of them would be with the Bantams down a man. The only thing slowing the Ephs down at this point was halftime as they had now boosted a 2-goal first period lead into a 7-goal halftime lead, 11-4.

The Bantams came out the gate in the third quarter looking to regain some of the ground they had lost. In typical Eph fashion, however, Williams matched the Bantams every step of the way. The second half of the game would quickly mirror the first half. Calvin Caputo began his journey to a hat-trick of his own with two goals, one coming from a fantastic dish from Nick Bates. The biggest difference though, was the way the Ephs controlled the game up and down the field. There was no doubt that the Ephs were playing like a team who were on a mission and there was no stopping them. In the dying seconds of the 3rd quarter Matt Wetmore, Eph goaltender, found Pearse Glavin with a long pass up field, who drilled the back of the net with one second left on the clock. The Ephs extended their lead to 8, 14-6 at the end of three quarters.

Calvin Caputo, Tucker Catlin, and Ryan Johnson each scored in the fourth quarter and the Ephs secured a 17-11 road win.

Eph head coach George McCormack had this to say after the game in response to the difference between today's game, and their previous contest at RPI,  "Our team played with better focus and intensity today. We shared the ball on offense and won the ground ball battle."

The Ephs will look to wrap up their series of away games with an out of conference contest against Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia this Wednesday.
