Williams Drops Two to the Tigers

Auburndale, Fl -  DePauw University defeated the Ephs twice on Sunday, 14-0 and 10-4. The doubleheader was part of Williams baseball's spring break trip to the RussMatt invitational in Florida.

The Tigers took the first game thanks in part to eight runs in a big third inning. The first game The Tigers got on the board in the top of the third inning. Senior Nick Skiera started the game for the Ephs, tossing a quick two scoreless before running into trouble in the third. He took the loss. On the day, the righty went three innings, giving up eight runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking one.

Junior James O'Connor led with two hits in three at bats, including a single up the middle. 

Another big inning, this time the fifth, gave DePauw the win in the second game 10-4. Even though the Tigers scored first, the Ephs made the score 4-3 in the top of the fourth after Mike Giove singled, scoring one run, and O'Connor doubled, scoring three runs.

DePauw flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on eight hits to take a 10-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field that drove in three.

Jake Martin started the game for Williams. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and six runs (three earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. He was relieved by Luca Lopetrone and Teddy Massingham

The Ephs amassed 10 hits in the game. O'Connor drove the middle of the lineup, leading  with three runs batted in. He went 2-for-4 on the day. O'Connor, Henry Juan, Ryan Nakajima, and Owen McHugh each collected two hits for Williams. McHugh and Sasha Palma also turned one double play in the game.

The Ephs will play St. Olaf College on Tuesday.
