Auburndale, Fl – Williams lost to St. Olaf College 7-3 on Tuesday despite a strong offensive showing. St. Olaf opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to three singles, then extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third on two RBI fielder's choices.
Owen McHugh took the loss for Williams in his second star of the year. The righty went three innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking three. He then entered the game to play shortstop, making several plays in the infield. Teddy Massingham, who started the game at third base, relieved McHugh, and was himself replaced by JP Wong, who struck out an outstanding five batters in his two innings.
The Ephs managed eight hits on the day. Brendan Stannard and Tony Lods each collected two hits, and Henry Juan and Lods each drove in one run for the Ephs. Juan nailed a deep double to left center, while Lods knocked in a run on a single to center. Another run also scored on a Juan ground ball to the shortstop, which was thrown away. Stannard singled past the third baseman and beat out a grounder to the shortstop. Massingham also singled to left field and scored a run.
Next for Williams is a doubleheader against Purchase College and Colby College on Wednesday.
