Williamstown, MA- The Williams College baseball team lost to Hamilton College in the series opener, 14-3.
Hamilton initiated the scoring when Jackson Sattinger grounded out to second base, bringing in Greg Kopp for the first run. Williams quickly countered, equalizing the score at 1-1 thanks to Ryan Nakajima's sacrifice fly that allowed Mike Giove to dash home.
The third inning saw Hamilton pulling ahead decisively. Taylor Kaufman delivered a crucial single up the middle, driving in Charlie O'Brien and Alfonso Rada to push the score to 3-1. Shortly thereafter, Kaufman crossed the plate on a wild pitch, extending Hamilton's lead to 4-1. Williams' response came swiftly with Owen McHugh hitting a solo homer to left field, tightening the score to 4-2.
Hamilton's offensive firepower blazed in the fourth inning, beginning with a two-run homer from O'Brien that brought Jackson Johns home, pushing the lead to 6-2. The highlight was Sattinger's three-run homer that cleared the bases, significantly widening the gap to 9-2.
The game progressed with Hamilton maintaining their momentum. In the sixth inning, Jack Griffin smacked a two-RBI single to right field, driving in Shane Dux and Kaufman, which brought the score to 11-2. The seventh inning saw consistent scoring from Hamilton with Kaufman and Dux contributing to push the score to 14-2, despite a solo run from Williams when McHugh grounded out to shortstop to bring Veeraswamy home, making it 14-3.
Williams looks to bounce back tomorrow in a doubleheader against Hamilton which are two must-win games in order for the Ephs to make the NESCAC playoffs.
