Baseball Leaves Amherst Empty Handed

Amherst, MA -- The Williams College baseball Team could not pull out a win against their rivals, Amherst College their three game series.

In a high-scoring college baseball game, Amherst College triumphed over Williams College 18-5.

The game began with Amherst taking an early lead in the first inning when Jack  McDermott scored as Ryan McIntyre was caught stealing second, but the throw allowed McDermott to dash home, putting Amherst on the board. The momentum continued into the second inning with Charlie LaFrenier's sacrifice fly bringing Sampedro home, and McDermott's bases-loaded walk allowed Luke Padian to score, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Williams responded in the fifth inning with a solo home run by Mike Giove, signaling a potential comeback. However, the fifth inning proved pivotal as Amherst unleashed a barrage of runs. The inning saw Amherst players hit by pitches and walking with the bases loaded, combined with Tyler McCord's and Jack Boyle's timely hits, leading to a total of 11 runs crossing the plate, dramatically extending their lead to 14-1.

Williams' scoring continued in the sixth inning with Sasha Palma's sacrifice fly and a substantial three-run homer by Henry Juan bringing the score to 14-5. Amherst's Sampedro responded with a grand slam, consolidating a commanding lead of 18-5.

The first game concluded with a final score of 18-5.

The second game started with a powerful offensive display from Amherst. Luke Padian drove in two runs with a single to left field, bringing Jack  Dove and Jack McDermott home, quickly putting their team up by two runs. The momentum continued in the second inning when Ryan McIntyre hit a double to left center, plating McDermott and Ben Smith to extend the lead to 4-0. Dove added another run with his single down the right-field line, bringing McIntyre home.

Williams sparked hope in the fourth inning when Owen McHugh hit a critical single through the right side, scoring Marcus Burrell and Mike Giove, cutting the deficit to three. Ryan Nakajima followed with an RBI double to center field, bringing McHugh home and tightening the score to 5-3.

However, the sixth inning saw Amherst pull away again. Javier Irizarry's sacrifice fly brought in Christian Limon, and  Boyle's double down the right-field line drove in Smith. McIntyre continued his strong performance with another RBI double, this time down the left-field line, to bring Boyle home, pushing the score to 8-3.

The eighth inning sealed Williams' fate as defensive miscues allowed two more runs. McIntyre reached first on an error by the third baseman, which allowed Boyle to score. Shortly after, Dove reached on a fielder's choice, and J. McDermott scored due to a defensive miscue, concluding the scoring at 10-3.
