HADLEY, MASS. – Three members of
Dan Greenberg's 2023-24 men's tennis team headed to the NESCAC Tournament this weekend have been accorded All-NESCAC honors in a vote by the conference coaches. The Eph honorees include junior captain
Matt Kandel, junior captain
Shawn Berdia and sophomore
Nicholas Chen.
"Kandel, Berdia, and Chen have done an amazing job leading the top of our lineup this year," Greenberg said. "They've won against the best teams' best players, giving us the edge in multiple 5-4 wins. More importantly, they've brought a great mix of focus and joy to our practices and matches all year long, which has allowed them and the team to get to this point."
Matt Kandel has now been honored by the NESCAC coaches six times in his career:
2024 First Team singles and doubles
2023 1st Team Singles, 2023 1st Team Doubles,
2022 Rookie of the Year, 2022 1st Team Doubles
Nicholas Chen earned his first NESCAC honor this spring, First Team doubles, while
Shawn Berdia collected his second NESCAC honor this spring by being named Second Team singles and previously having been named Second Team doubles in 2023
After the NCAA Team Championship Tournament
Matt Kandel will compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament and then he will team up with
Nicholas Chen to compete in the NCAA Doubles Tournament.
