Matt Kandel, Nicholas Chen and Shawn Berdia Earn All-NESCAC Tennis Honors

HADLEY, MASS. – Three members of Dan Greenberg's 2023-24 men's tennis team headed to the NESCAC Tournament this weekend have been accorded All-NESCAC honors in a vote by the conference coaches. The Eph honorees include junior captain Matt Kandel, junior captain Shawn Berdia and sophomore Nicholas Chen.

"Kandel, Berdia, and Chen have done an amazing job leading the top of our lineup this year," Greenberg said. "They've won against the best teams' best players, giving us the edge in multiple 5-4 wins. More importantly, they've brought a great mix of focus and joy to our practices and matches all year long, which has allowed them and the team to get to this point."

Matt Kandel has now been honored by the NESCAC coaches six times in his career:
2024 First Team singles and doubles
2023 1st Team Singles, 2023 1st Team Doubles,
2022 Rookie of the Year, 2022 1st Team Doubles

Nicholas Chen earned his first NESCAC honor this spring, First Team doubles, while Shawn Berdia collected his second NESCAC honor this spring by being named Second Team singles and previously having been named Second Team doubles in 2023

After the NCAA Team Championship Tournament Matt Kandel will compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament and then he will team up with Nicholas Chen to compete in the NCAA Doubles Tournament.
