TEMPE, Ariz. - After performing exceptionally well in the classroom during the 2024-25 academic year, the Williams College men's tennis team earned 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team laurels, as the Ephs also saw all nine student-athletes named Scholar-Athletes.
The nine Ephs who met the criteria for Scholar-Athlete laurels were Jack Ling '28, Diego Marin '28, Nicholas Chen '26, Leon Liu '27, Shawn Berdia '25, Robert Cooper Jr. '28, Andrew Chong '25, Simon Volkema '26 and Carter Fayard '28. To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the past school year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
During the 2024-25 season, Chen earned ITA All-American status in singles action, as he reached the second round during the NCAA Division III Individual Championship during May in Claremont, California. Berdia was named to the NESCAC All-Conference First Team in singles, Chen and Berdia earned First Team laurels in doubles and Volkema was recognized on the Second Team for singles. Berdia, Chen, Chong and Volkema were honored on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
The program earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for the 16th consecutive season dating back to 2010. The requirements to be recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team are programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 or above on a 4.0 scale, all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the 2024-25 academic year.
