BRUNSWICK, ME— The Ephs returned for Day 2 of ITA Regionals action, looking to push their two remaining doubles teams through to the next day.
First up was
Jane Ladaga and
Annabelle Siegel, playing a strong pair from Wesleyan. The Ephs had a slow start. Despite being down 1-4, they kept on competing, bringing energy to the court and completing some good plays. Ultimately, however, they fell 4-8.
Senior
Yuu Ishikawa and sophomore
Margaux Molyneux had the highlight of the day for the Ephs, taking down a top-ranked team from Amherst 8-2. The duo was extremely solid, combining Molyneux's power from both wings with Ishikawa's touch. With this win, they entered the quarterfinals in their first event as a pairing.
Ishikawa and Molyneux would return to the court just minutes later for their next match, where they played the fifth seeds from Middlebury. Unfortunately, this set did not play out as well as before. The Ephs would lose a number of close games and eventually fall 3-8.
Commenting on today's performance, head coach oach
Anik Cepeda said "Today was better from an attitude standpoint and stronger competitive tennis followed. We could have executed better on the important points, but that'll come with more practice. I think everyone knows what we need to work on individually and collectively. Over the next two weeks we'll walk the talk in practice drills and point play until we get it right."
The Ephs will return to action on Oct 11 for NEWITTS at Smith College as they continue to build on their fall season.
