Ephs Defeat Cardinals 2-0 in Bounce Back Victory

Middletown, CT - The Williams College Ephs (7-4-0, 1-3-0 NESCAC) picked up their first conference win of the season over the Wesleyan University Cardinals  (6-7-0, 1-5-0 NESCAC) in a 2-0 shutout victory.

By the Numbers

  • The Ephs were 0/4 on the power play while the Cardinals were 0/3.
  • Erin Pye totaled 30 saves in her shutout performance.

Game Recap

  • The beginning of the game was back-and-forth between both teams, until the Ephs captured a power play opportunity a quarter of the way into the first period. While the Ephs were not able to capitalize, they were able to get off a number of quality looks (5:15).
  • The Ephs' second power play opportunity was also unsuccessful, but it was a precursor for their first goal of the game.
  • Off a pass by Chloe Noxon senior forward Sophia Hoppe buried a goal to take a 1-0 lead for the Ephs as the period came to a close (18:47).
  • The Cardinals went on the power play early into the second period, and the Ephs' penalty kill unit impressed—Keira Harder and Noxon made some key defensive plays, and the Ephs' defense only allowed three shots during the two minute interval (4:58).
  • At the end of the second period, the Cardinals went on a 3-on-5 power play, but the Ephs' limited numbers did not diminish their effort, and they kept the game at 1-0 as the game moved into the third period (18:56).
  • As the game wound down, the Ephs were coming off an unsuccessful power play with around two minutes left in the game. This time it was Chloe Noxon who found the back of the net to cement the Ephs' win by a 2-0 margin.

Eph head coach Meghan Gillis stated after the game, "The game was very close again today. I thought we had a better start to our game and weathered the storm at points to get the much needed win."

Next up for the Ephs will be a game against the Trinity College Bantams at home on Friday, January 17th, with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 PM.
