Game Recap
- Both sides found themselves on the power lay early in the first period, but neither side was able to convert and take the lead.
- Senior defenseman Katie Armstrong netted the first goal of the game, giving the Ephs a 1-0 lead as the first period came to a close (17:47).
- The two teams' offenses exchanged possession back-and-forth in the second period, with momentum turning in the Bantams' favor when they received a power play chance midway through the period that they were able to capitalize on (13:34).
- This time it was a non-whistle that proved to be pivotal, as sophomore Keira Harder took a big hit as she was skating with the puck; despite the open ice hit, the Bantams were not given a penalty.
- As the second period was coming to a close, the Bantams found the back of the net again, bringing the game to 2-1 (16:50).
- The Ephs were able to garner some offensive momentum during the third period, recording a number of shots on goal and having two power play chances. Unfortunately, it was not enough, and the Bantams escaped with the 2-1 win.
Eph head coach Meghan Gillis commented after the game, "I rarely say anything about the officials, but the non call on the Harder open ice hit has already been confirmed by head of officials as one that should be a 5 and a game. It was a pivotal moment in the game that did not go our way. Our team needs to learn to play different styles in different games and we did not accomplish that today."
The Ephs will once again face off against the Trinity College Bantams at home, on Saturday, January 18th, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM.
