Ephs Draw Against Mules 0-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Williams College Ephs (8-6-1, 2-5-1 NESCAC) battled against  the #15 ranked Colby College Mules (9-4-2, 2-4-2 NESCAC) in the second leg of a doubleheader that saw the teams draw 1-1. 

By the Numbers

  • The Ephs were 0/3 on the power play while the Mules were 0/2.
  • Goaltender Erin Pye was once again sensational in between the pipes with 33 saves. 
  • The Ephs out shot the Mules 39-33. 

Game Recap

  • The Ephs went on the power play early into the contest, but the Mules' syood strong, stuffing opportunities for the Ephs to score until both teams were back to even strength (1:56).
  • Ten minutes later, the Ephs sent the Mules on the power play due to the same penalty—too many players on the ice. Pye came up big during the power play, making a number of impressive saves to keep the game square (12:22).
  • The second period was as back-and-forth as it gets, reminiscent of yesterday's game, and the two squads entered the third period still deadlocked at 0-0.
  • The third period was nearly identical to the second, and but was hallmarked especially by a strong Eph\ defense that sent the game into overtime. 
  • The Ephs received a golden opportunity in overtime by way of a power play—Katie Armstrong and Sophia Hoppe had good chances, but the Colby defense held strong.
  • While the Ephs prevailed in the shootout, this game will be recorded as a draw. 

Eph head Coach Meghan Gillis said after the game, "I thought we continued to play more consistent hockey. We need to continue to try and get better every single day."

The Ephs will next face the Hamilton College Continentals on the road on  in Clinton, NY Friday January 31st at 7:00 PM.
