CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Williams College fielded two crews in the Men's Collegiate Eight at the famed Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, with both cohorts having successful days on the water.
Conditions for the 4,702 meter race were favorable, but featured both head and tailwinds due to the winding nature of the course.
The first boat started the Collegiate Eight event for the Ephs, and they had a strong race, despite La Salle College steering in front of Williams under Elliot Bridge and causing a crash. The Ephs did their best to recover and finished sixth out of 42 crews with a time of 14:44.068.
The Second Eight was next, and they finished 26th with a time of 15:31.734. The boat had a solid race that improved throughout the row.
Holy Cross won the Collegiate Eight event with a time of 14:25.533.
"The fall has been fun and productive for our entire team, and today was an opportunity to let loose on the racecourse prior to a long winter off-season," said Head Coach Marc Mandel. "Ultimately, the first boat showed legitimate speed, and just were unlucky in encountering La Salle under Elliot Bridge, but that's the nature of this race for better or worse.
"We still have a few weeks left in our fall season, and we are looking forward to being back with the entire squad as we enjoy our last practices on Onota."
The teams were supported in Boston by a large group of family, friends, and alumni who stopped by to watch the races and cheer on the Ephs as the team concluded its fall season.
