NESCAC Release
HADLEY, Mass. - After finishing sixth overall out of 264 runners and clocking a personal-best time of 24:16.8 during the 8-kilometer Blue race at the Connecticut College Invitational Saturday, senior captain
Rick Yanashita of the No. 8-ranked Williams College men's cross country team was named NESCAC Runner of the Week Tuesday morning.
"We are very pleased to see Rick honored by the NESCAC," said head coach
Dusty Lopez. "He is been one of our most consistent and competitive runners this year, and helps lead the team on a daily basis. He ran a very impressive race at Connecticut College and will continue to play a key role for us during the championship season. We are excited to see what he and the rest of the group can do."
This marks the first weekly NESCAC award of Yanashita's collegiate career, as he was the first Eph to cross the finish line at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut. During the 2024 season, the San Jose, California, native placed 15th overall at the NCAA Division III Regional Championship, securing All-Region and All-New England accolades.
Yanashita was the fifth overall runner to cross the finish line during the Keene State Invitational on Oct. 4, as the Ephs won the meet out of 26 teams. Williams has also won the Little Three Championship on Sept. 6 in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11 in Westfield, Massachusetts.
The Ephs will compete in the NESCAC Championship, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 1, with race time set for 11 a.m. at Harkness Memorial State Park.
