Ephs close regular season with loss to Middlebury

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's soccer team closed the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Middlebury on Tuesday afternoon on Cole Field.

The Ephs were in control for most of the first half, putting a number of shots on the Middlebury goal and having more of the possession, but neither team could break through. Despite outshooting Middlebury 7-4 and having a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks, the game went into halftime tied 0-0.

The game changed in the second half as Middlebury took control, and found the lead just six minutes into the second session, heading in a corner kick.

The Ephs battled back to find an equalizer but had three shots saved and several more just missed the frame. With just under 14 minutes left, Middlebury added a second goal, and scored a third on a penalty with only four minutes to play.

Andrew Coelho led the Ephs with five shots, including two on goal, and JJ Ruehlemann had three shots. Aleix Anglada made two saves in net for Williams.

The team will wait on the Connecticut College vs. Wesleyan match later this evening to determine the location of Saturday's NESCAC quarterfinal. A Wesleyan win or a draw will see the game played at Williams.
