NEWA Release
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - After going 2-0 at 133 pounds during the Williams College wrestling team's home-opening matches against Roger Williams and University of Bridgeport Saturday in Lasell Gym, first-year
Jake Strianese collected New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week accolades Thursday.
Strianese is 4-1 on the season with a trio of technical falls, as he emerged victorious against Bloomsburg and Campbell at George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia, on Nov. 8.
"Jake and all of his fellow first-years have been a wonderful addition to the program," said head coach
Scott Honecker. "While he had a few nice victories for us, it is his energy and passion that is his greatest contribution. Now that he has demonstrated he has some ability, I am looking forward to supporting his growth and seeing how far he can advance his wrestling throughout the course of this season."
In other NEWA news, the Ephs are ranked third in the team tournament rankings. Senior
Peter Kane (157), senior
Caleb Seyfried (149) and sophomore
Jamie Evarts (184) are No. 1 in their respective weight classes.
The Ephs will compete at the Doug Parker Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. on the campus of Springfield College.
