WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College women's basketball team secured its first win of the season Friday night, defeating the University of Saint Joseph 62–38 at home in the opening game of the Morin Memorial Tournament.
After a tightly contested first quarter, the Ephs broke the game open in the second, outscoring the Blue Jays 20–7 to build a 32–20 halftime advantage. Williams carried that momentum into the second half, limiting Saint Joseph to just four points in the third quarter.
Williams shot 42.1% from the floor while holding the Blue Jays to 24.5%, and finished an efficient 70.6% at the free-throw line.
Hanorah Murphy and
Kathleen Smith paced the Ephs with 12 points apiece, with Smith also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds to help Williams dominate the boards, 48–30.
Micah Walton added 11 points, while
Sarah Pettegrove contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
Amaya Chase-Luthra and
Logan Coster each chipped in six points.
The Ephs forced 17 turnovers and received a strong lift from their bench, which combined for 15 points.
Williams returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m., facing either Keene State or Plattsburgh State in the Morin Memorial Tournament Championship Game.
