SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Williams College wrestling team earned a strong second place at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College, on Saturday.
The event featured brackets in each weight class, and a total of 19 Williams wrestlers competed throughout the day. The Ephs placed an impressive 10 wrestlers in the top six, including three victories and two second-place finishes.
Coast Guard won the event with 167.5 points, ahead of Williams' 141.5, which was well clear of Wesleyan with 108 points in third place. Thirteen total schools competed in Saturday's event.
The three winners from Williams were Christopher Colon at 125 pounds, Peter Kane at 157, and at 174 pounds, teammates Henry Forte and Gage Wiggins made the final and earned first and second place for the team. Colon and Kane won all four of their matches, while Forte and Wiggins each won three before being due to face each other in the final. The other second-place finish was Jamie Evarts at 184, who topped opponents from Bridgewater, Trinity, and Coast Guard before falling to another Coast Guard wrestler in the final.
Other Ephs with strong performances on the day included a third-place finish from Caleb Seyfried at 149, fifth place from Tylor Stubbs at 141 and Zach Borzio at 184, and sixth place from Jake Strianese at 133 and Connor Reynolds at 285.
The Ephs will have a short break from competition before competing at the RIT Invitational in Rochester on December 6, and return home to Lasell Gymnasium on January 3 for the Williams Open.
