WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan 53-46 on Sunday afternoon at home, improving the Ephs to 4-2 on the season.
The Ephs opened with a narrow 15–13 lead after the first quarter, but Wesleyan closed the second period on a 9–0 run to send the game into halftime tied at 24–24. Williams responded strongly out of the break, using a 17–12 third quarter to regain control before outscoring the Cardinals 12–10 in the final quarter to secure the victory.
Despite shooting 36.4% from the field (20-55), the Ephs controlled the game through rebounds, points in the paint, and consistent free-throw shooting.
The Ephs outscored Wesleyan 28–14 in the paint, won the battle on the glass 38–32, producing eight second-chance points. Williams also went 12-of-16 (75%) from the foul line.
Kathleen Smith led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds, earning her second double-double of the season while shooting 5-of-8 from the floor and 7-of-10 at the line.
Hanorah Murphy added 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting along with seven rebounds.
Micah Walton chipped in eight points and seven boards, while
Amaya Chase-Luthra finished with seven points.
The Ephs return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when they travel to face Smith College at 7 p.m.
