Williamstown, MA – The Williams College Ephs (8-10-3) found a way to battle through a low scoring game against the Middlebury College Panthers (10-10-1) to secure victory in a shootout. This was only possible from a fantastic performance by senior goaltender and co-captain
Cal Sandquist and two great shooting performances by Nick Rashkovsky and Connor Fitzpatrick.
Zero goals were scored in all three periods of play tonight, as well as in overtime, before this game was decided in a shootout. Despite that, there was plenty to be seen between the puck drop and the final save. The fans in Lansing Chapman Arena saw great defensive play by the Ephs, with players like
Liam Jones continuing to define what it means to be consistent and dependable. The Williams penalty kill also had two opportunities to shine tonight. Players such as
David Vieten and
William Yee were instrumental in keeping the Panthers at bay on the man advantage. There was ample evidence, through all 60 minutes, that the Ephs understood this was a "must win" game tonight to keep their chances of making the NESCAC Tournament alive. They secured the victory and now look to secure 3 points tomorrow, on the road, at Middlebury.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas had this to say after the game, keeping in mind that Williams faces off against Middlebury tomorrow, "You rarely have the opportunity to play in or watch a 0-0 OT hockey game. Both teams played very good hockey, both goalies were outstanding, and each team had its fair share of offensive chances. We expect this playoff-type game to be very similar tomorrow night at Middlebury."
