Ephs Fall to Polar Bears 4-0

Brunswick, ME - The Williams College Ephs (12-10-1, 5-9-1 NESCAC) suffered a road defeat to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears (15-7-0, 9-6-0 NESCAC) by a score of 4-0. 

By the Numbers

  • The Ephs were 0/3 on the power play, while the Polars Bears were 0/0. 
  • The shot total was relatively even, at 24-23 with the advantage going to the Polar Bears. 

Game Recap

  • The Polar Bears struck early to open up the game in front of the home crowd, taking a 1-0 lead (2:48).
  • Two coinciding penalties saw 4-on-4 action on the ice as the first period drew to a close, but the Polar Bears held the lead heading into the first intermission.
  • It was déjà vu in the beginning of the second period, as the Polar Bears once again scored exactly two minutes and forty-eight seconds into the period (2:48). 
  • The Polar Bears scored again midway through the second period to grow their lead to 3-0 (14:05).
  • The Ephs went on the power play with about two minutes left to go in the second period and picked up the 5-on-3 at the beginning of the third. period However, the Polar Bears' penalty kill unit was suffocating, and the Ephs were unable to score (5:11).
  • With about four minutes left to go, the Ephs went on the power play once again. Leah Rubinshteyn went 2/2 on face offs during the power play and Annie Gallagher was able to get a good look on goal, but unfortunately for the Ephs, they could not cut the lead down (18:08).
  • The Polars Bears netted one more and the contest finished as a 4-0 loss for the Ephs (18:43).

Eph head coach of the Ephs Meghan Gillis stated following the game, "I thought Bowdoin came out ready to win and we were not able to match that energy. Giving up two goals in the first 3 minutes of the first and second was tough. We are looking forward to bouncing back tomorrow."

The Ephs will rematch the Polar Bears tomorrow in Brunswick, with puck drop scheduled for 3PM .
