Ephs Down Colby 6-3 in Quarterfinals of Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Today the Ephs faced the Colby Mules in the first round of College Team Championships at the Arlen Specter center in Philadelphia. The Ephs felt confident heading into the match, and delivered a strong 6-3 finish.

First on court were Melanie Wang, Christina Yen, and Amanda Solecki. Wang faced a strong opponent, and was neck-in-neck throughout the match. Ultimately, Wang lost the 5th game 13-11. At the same time, Yen and Solecki won their matches in a solid four games each.

Heading into the second round of matches, Rhea Pandit, Theresa Kay, and Anika Kakarla took to the courts. Pandit lost a hard-fought five game match, while Kay and Kakarla performed accurate and smart squash to overcome their opponents in straight games. 

Heading into the final round of matches, the Ephs were up 4-2. Rachel Miller and Nora Brant executed strong squash to beat their mule opponents in three and four games respectively, clinching the match for the Ephs. Sophia Koehler, meanwhile, lost in three hard-fought games.

After the match, Eph head coach Hesham Aly commented, "The team performed well today against Colby. We have good energy heading into our match against Georgetown tomorrow in the semifinals, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the team performs."

Tomorrow, the Ephs, ranked #2 in the tournament, face #3 ranked Georgetown in the semifinals at 3pm.
