The Short Story:
The Ephs traveled to Troy, NY, to face the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, splitting their doubleheader. Now, with a strong start to their season under their belts, the Ephs are gearing up for their trip to the West Coast and the stretch of non-conference games to come.
Game one was marked by an excellent performance from pitcher Sadie Leonard, who threw a no-hitter. The Ephs offense, led by Sydney Fleming, came alive right from the start, beginning with a four-run first inning.
In game two although Katie Blanch threw a great game in the circle with just two hits allowed, RPI's timely hitting allowed them to push ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning.
Coach's Take:
Reflecting on areas to focus on as the Ephs prepare for their upcoming games in California, Eph head coach Kris Herman commented, "We need to sustain pressure on offense." When discussing the team's performance in the doubleheader today, Herman said: "Well, we want to win every time out and didn't do that. There were a lot of good performances, timely hits and great pitching. To give up 2 hits on the day is pretty special."
