Women's Swimming & Diving Rewind: Ephs total 16 individual All-American efforts and four in relay events at NCAA Championship

The Williams College women's swimming & diving program saw 11 student-athletes earn All-American laurels in Greensboro, North Carolina.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The No. 6-ranked Williams College women's swimming & diving team saw 11 student-athletes earn All-American recognition at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship on March 19-22 during a sixth-place team finish in Greensboro, North Carolina, as senior captain Sophia Verkleeren earned national titles with first-place finishes in the championship final of the 200 and 400-yard individual medley.

"I am proud of our women's energy and performances at the NCAA Championship," said Verkleeren. "Finishing sixth is exciting, but our spirit and joy for each other on deck is what set our team apart. We were there in every race and dive supporting each other and other NESCAC teams and that made the meet special."

The Ephs compiled a total of 20 All-American efforts over the four-day meet, with 16 occurring on the individual side and four happening in team-oriented relay events. The unit compiled a total of 10 All-American First Team performances and 10 Second Team efforts. The 2024-25 Ephs also captured the program's 21st NESCAC Championship and second consecutive on Feb. 13-16 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

"This was the largest NCAA team I have ever been a part of," said Verkleeren. "Every Eph woman who qualified worked hard all season to make it to Greensboro. It was amazing to watch all of that training result in some outstanding performances on the national stage. I could not be prouder of this team of women."

Verkleeren shattered the NCAA record in the final of the 400 IM (4:11.23) and placed first at the national meet in the 200 IM (1:59.93) for the third consecutive season. The Horseheads, New York, native also garnered First Team All-American honors in the 200 backstroke (1:56.68) with a runner-up performance in the championship final.

Senior captain Charlotte Wishnack took home First Team All-American laurels in the 200 (2:12.37) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.69) events, placing third and fifth, respectively, during the championship final. Sophomore Clementine Robins earned First Team All-American recognition with an eighth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:56.18), while junior Lily Codd  was the seventh swimmer to touch the wall in the 1,650 freestyle (16:53.04) during her All-American First Team performance. Junior Irene Yang achieved a First Team All-American finish in the 100 backstroke (56.10), clocking the eighth-fastest time.

Earning All-American Second Team laurels were Codd (500 freestyle, 5:00.37, and 400 IM, 4:26.85), Wishnack (200 IM, 2:05.14), sophomore Abi Greenberg (200 butterfly, 2:05.54), Robins (100 backstroke, 55:31), Yang (200 backstroke, 2:03.10) and sophomore Carter Roebuck (200 breaststroke, 2:16.39). Senior captain Adelaide Herman recorded her best-finish ever in the final of the 1-meter diving event with an 11th-place performance (412.75) on her way to taking home All-American Second Team honors.

The Ephs recorded two All-American First Team performances in relay events, as Robins, Roebuck, Codd and Verkleeren placed sixth overall in the final of the 800 freestyle relay (7:23.39). The group of Robins, Wishnack, Verkleeren and Roebuck touched the wall in sixth place during the final of the 400 medley relay (3:42.03).

Verkleeren, Wishnack, first-year Clare McDermott and sophomore Bernadette Ramoy achieved Second Team All-American status with a ninth-place effort in the 200 medley relay (1:41.58), while Yang, Roebuck, sophomore Emma Dimter and Verkleeren registered a 12th-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.39).

"The 14 women who competed in Greensboro this past week did a great job," said head coach Steve Kuster. "They had a lot to deal with between exams and schoolwork, a grueling four-day schedule and the nation's best swimmers and divers, but they took it all in stride and performed very well. I love the way this team competes and carries itself. We could not ask for more."
