Ballston Spa, NY – The Williams Men's golf team improved three places today to finish the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational in fifth place at 14-over par as a team for the weekend.
Eph first year
Jack Estrella led the way finishing with a 1-under par 70. Estrella had a tumultuous front nine, making four birdies and three bogeys before finishing his round with a stretch of five straight pars to keep his score in red numbers.
Three Ephs came in behind Estrella at 1-over par 72. Fellow first year
Hunter Justice as well as sophomores
Owen Nielsen and
Alex Moller were excellent all day long. The Eph scorers only had one double bogey all day between the four of them.
Both first years, Estrella and Justice, finished the weekend at 2-over par which was enough to earn them both T15 in the individual standings, another promising weekend from the young Ephs in the second spring event of their careers.
Eph head coach
Josh Hillman spoke on the outcome of the weekend: "This was our most complete tournament yet. All five guys played solid golf for 36 holes. Our attitude, demeanor, thought process and execution was the highest it's been in a long time and it showed. Our younger players are really coming into their own and learning what it takes to post low rounds in college. Ben also continues to draw from his past experiences and has been playing solid, steady golf. This was a big, big step in the right direction with our goal of peaking for NESCACs. It feels good to beat highly ranked teams."
The Ephs will host an event at Waubeeka Golf Links next weekend in lieu of their typical spring Invitational at the Taconic GC. Taconic Golf Club will host the NESCAC Championship the following weekend.
