Ephs Split Doubleheader With Tufts at Home

Scores:

Tufts 4, Williams 3

Williams 4, Tufts 3

Location: WILLIAMSTOWN, MA

Records: Williams 15-7; Tufts 12-12

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - It was a cold and cloudy afternoon in Williamstown as the Ephs hosted Tufts for a doubleheader, splitting the series with an electric win in Game 2. In Game 1, Sydney Fleming gave Williams a jolt with a three-run homer, but the Ephs came up just short. Fleming, who broke the program's career home run record last week, added two more home runs on the day to bring her total to 40. Game 2 came to a thrilling close, with Alysa DeQuiroz delivering a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh, scoring the winning run with two outs on the board. The victory was also fueled by strong defensive play behind pitcher Katie Blanch

Coach's Take:

When asked about the team's mindset going into the bottom of the 7th in game two, Eph head Coach Kris Herman responded: "We went into that inning knowing that we could only do our best. We needed to get someone on base in the 7th today and no one was better than DQ in getting things done." Herman added, "We're excited to get to the field tomorrow for another NESCAC doubleheader!"

Game 1

How it Happened

  • Tufts jumped out to an early lead with a solo home run to left center in the top of the first inning.

  • Williams responded in the third, as Sydney Fleming launched her 11th home run of the season, driving home Alysa DeQuiroz and Kayla Chang as well to give the Ephs a brief lead.

  • Tufts took back the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on a double and a single.

  • Although pitcher, Sadie Leonard tallied 12 strikeouts, the Jumbos managed to put together eight hits and come away with the win.

Game 2

How it Happened

  • The Ephs backed up pitcher Katie Blanch with solid defense in Game 2, highlighted by standout plays in the top of the fourth from left fielder Dani Jackman and second baseman Emily Borrazzo that helped keep Tufts scoreless through the early innings.

  • Alysa DeQuiroz had an exceptional performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs

  • Sydney Fleming also kept her momentum going in game two, having a 2-for-3 day with 1 run, 2 RBIs, and a home run

  • After four scoreless innings, Tufts struck first with an RBI single to right center in the top of the fifth

  • Lauren Davis kicked off the Ephs charge in the bottom of the 5th, hitting a double to center field; DeQuiroz followed with a single down the left field line to bring her home

  • Sydney Fleming then hit a 2 RBI home run to score DeQuiroz and give Williams a 3-1 lead

  • Tufts rallied in the top of the seventh, tying the game on a two-out, two-RBI single

  • The Ephs were hungry for the win after the Jumbos tied the game in the top of the 7th.

  • Kayla Chang kept the Ephs alive with a single, and DeQuiroz capped her stellar day with a walk-off double to left center, sending Chang home and sealing a 4–3 win for the Ephs.
