Williamstown, MA – The Williams Men's golf team finished second this weekend with a team score of 11 over par after two days of competition. Eph first year
Jack Estrella picked up the first individual win of his college career.
Estrella played outstanding all weekend long, finishing with an impressive two day score of 3-under par. After two bogeys and two birdies on the front nine, Estrella played a spotless back nine with pars on every hole except his birdie on hole 17 to bring his second round of the weekend to 1-under par.
Sophomore
Alex Moller was next in scoring in the second round for the Ephs. Moller made five birdies on the day en route to a rock solid 1-over par 72. Two of his five birdies came in the last four holes.
First year
Hunter Justice and sophomore
Owen Nielsen rounded out the scoring for the Ephs, finishing up with a 2 over par 73, and 3-over par 74, respectively. Justice's round of 2-over was enough to earn him 4th place in the individual standings, an outstanding showing from both Eph first years. After making three bogeys in his first six holes, Nielsen was able to fight back with birdies on 8 and 10 to gain two shots back. Two bogeys on the back nine brought him to 3 over for the round.
Eph head coach
Josh Hillman commented on the results from the weekend: "It was not an easy weekend for scoring. Wind, rain and springtime conditions made it hard to score but like I said last week, these guys battled. Every player battled on every hole. We made a lot of birdies and limited our mistakes. I feel really good about where this team is headed. Trinity was solid, Skidmore even better to shoot 581 over two days is solid. It was tough to lose by two but it was amazing to see
Jack Estrella win the event."
The Ephs are on the road for the Little Three Championship at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Conn. on Tuesday where they will compete in 36 holes of match play against Amherst and Wesleyan. The format consists of alternate shot team play in the morning and individual matches in the afternoon.
