Williamstown, MA — The Williams men's golf team sits in fourth place after day one of the NESCAC Championship hosted by the Ephs at Taconic Golf Club.
First-year
Jack Estrella and sophomore
Alex Moller each carded an impressive 1-over par 72 to lead the way for the Ephs. Both players struck the ball great all day en route to the 1-over par finish, good enough to earn them both a tie for fifth place in the individual standings.
First-year
Hunter Justice came in next for the Ephs with a 4-over par 75 while sophomore
Owen Nielsen ended up at 5-over par 76 to round out the scoring for the Ephs.
The Ephs sit just 5 shots back of Hamilton, who lead the tournament with a team score of 6-over par.
Eph head coach
Josh Hillman commented on the result after day one: "Today was a great start to the first ever 54 hole championship. You can't win it one day one but you sure can dig yourself into a hole. We gave some shots back on 18 and that stings. At this level you need to do the simple things well and we made a few mistakes at the end. All in all I am very happy with our start. If we clean up a few holes and make good decisions I expect to be near the top of the leader board tomorrow night."
The Ephs are back in action tomorrow beginning at 10:50am.
